I haven’t had the opportunity to use it extensively yet, but I’ve tried it a few times in recipes where it barely makes a dent in what I have. I’m curious if it’s as aromatic as the one I’m used to from the supermarket. I’m thinking of picking up a small amount from the store just to do a side-by-side check. I suspect the scent isn’t quite as intense, but it’s definitely worth it, considering the cost difference.

I find it amusing how this brand offers varying amounts of different spices in similar packaging, haha. I got these for making pizzelles. It’s becoming tough to find anise seeds in stores nowadays, and when you do, they tend to be overpriced. This is a fantastic bulk deal on anise seeds, and they taste great in cookies, tea, and more.
Seven ounces of anise seeds is much more than I anticipated! The container is sizable, and I might need to transfer some into a smaller jar to fit on my spice rack. It’s handy that whole anise seeds last 3-4 years when stored away from light and in cool conditions. I’ll vacuum-seal the extras for future use. They have a pleasant anise aroma, and I look forward to using them. I emptied the container onto a large baking sheet to check for contaminants (like insect bits, unknown residues, etc.), and found NONE (photo included. NOTE: I placed a toothpick in the anise for scale). My only concern is that even though the container states it was packed in the U.S. and has a U.S. contact number, it doesn’t mention the seeds’ country of origin. According to packaging laws, all imported products must indicate where they come from unless exempt. They were packaged in the U.S., but the origin isn’t clear; that should be corrected on the labeling (and if they’re from the U.S., that would be a bonus). Outside of that, these Dubble anise seeds seem to be of good quality and offer great value compared to buying smaller quantities.

As someone who enjoys making biscotti, I go through a lot of anise seed. The Dubble O Anise seed is really uniform in size and doesn’t have any stray bits, like small stems. I did a sniff comparison with my last jar of anise, since the scent gives a good idea of the flavor. This one smelled much more potent than the other—it’s possible the other one has lost some flavor in the 3-4 months since I purchased it. The price for the 7 oz container isn’t much more than what I paid for a 1.5 oz jar at the store.
